The key to winning a world poker tour or another online tournament is patience. The more people you have to compete against, the more patient you have to be. Hands that you would normally play in a real money game, you will want to fold in large web competitions.

The later you get in the competition, the more patient you have to be. You have to ask yourself if you are willing to get knocked out of the competition with the cards you are holding. For example, people like to play low pairs in Texas Holdem, but you do not want to lose your spot because you were holding onto your pocket fives.

The hardest part about internet poker tournaments is the first few rounds. This is where you need to play a little aggressive in order to try and get a big stack. If you are too timid at first, then others begin to muscle you out with their chip stacks.

A common mistake many gamblers make is to get a big stack and start playing loosely. Once you have built up a decent stack, you can sit back and be patient. In the later rounds of web  competitions, remember that a risky call will put you down a lot, but if you just fold, you will still be in good position to win the overall competition, which is the main goal anyways.
